“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NIV

Staci told her story with a smile on her face and an undeniable joy ringing in her voice. It was a story about overcoming obstacles. In this case, it was a life-threatening obstacle. There was no time to waste. A tumor was lodged between her brain and her spinal cord. Surgery was imminent.

The surgery was complicated. The physician’s report was dismal. The doctor told Staci that she had death if they operated and death if they did not. But God.

Her recovery involved learning how to walk and talk again. Staci was starting over. It was going to be a rough road. The doctors did not think she would make a full recovery. Yet, her disposition was optimistic. She fervently believed that if God was leading her to this, then God would bring her through it! Staci braced herself for the work ahead and lived out her own strategies for overcoming obstacles.

Trust in the Lord

We are human beings with ordinary abilities. To overcome obstacles we must rely on something greater than ourselves. Something supernatural. Obstacles appear insurmountable to the human eye. But really, it’s God who is invincible.

Trusting in the Lord is to know that He exists and He loves you. It is knowing that He is able and he can do anything but fail. It is also knowing that God is working with you and through you to overcome your obstacle. Together you will overcome.

Believe what He says in His Word

God speaks truth to you through His Word and His messengers. Studying the Bible and hearing the Word regularly are the pathways to believing His promises. God’s promise is one of protection and salvation.

Believing in His Word gives you an inner peace and a positive outlook. You rest on knowing that God alone is faithful and loving. You surrender your worries. You look far beyond what the obstacle seems to be and walk by faith into your victory.

Walk it out wholeheartedly

You know the saying that “actions speak louder than words.” Ultimately your trust in God and your belief in His promises is evident in your daily walk. You will face this obstacle with fortitude. You will display a positive attitude. You will have a spirit of gratitude.

Walking it out wholeheartedly entails rejoicing and praising daily. You focus on what God is doing and how He is blessing you in spite of the obstacle. You testify to the goodness and greatness of God. While you are walking it out, you are assured that God is working it out.
