“The time has come to harness the blessed power within us and to use it to transcend from our current existence into a more empowered reality.”
― Steve Maraboli

I attended two women’s empowerment events this week. Two. It was pure exhilaration to be among so many accomplished women.

They spoke confidently and passionately. They inspired us to take charge of our destinies. They emphasized having meaningful careers and managing wealth.

Most of all they stressed surrounding ourselves with experts or, perhaps, your very, own board of directors.

Make it your business to be in good company. Regularly expose yourself to intelligent, experienced people who will provide wise counsel.

And then there’s the clarion call to pay it forward. To think beyond ourselves and become engaged with the emerging generations. To pave the way for someone else’s success.

A younger professional. An impoverished little girl. A neighbor. A friend.

Pay it forward.

Yet, when all was said and done … it was the quiet, almost frail voice of an elderly nun that really spoke volumes above the rest.

What is empowerment?

She shared a simple dictionary.com definition.

Empowerment is …

  • “Authority or power given to someone to do something.
  • The process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s rights.”

The later definition captured my attention. The words marinated in my mind the remainder of the day.

“The process of becoming stronger and more confident … controlling one’s life … claiming one’s rights.”

Empowerment is a process. We are always in the process of becoming empowered. We can be stronger, more confident. There is always more available.

We are empowered and we can become more empowered.

Living an empowered life means continuously stretching yourself to reach the next level. To become stronger. To become more confident. To become yourself.

Unapologetically.

How do we become empowered?

This little, sweet, elderly nun, full of grace, gently centered our minds and thoughts on God. She said a blessing. She gave thanks.

God is the most powerful One who gives to each absolute power for living.

We are empowered by God.

And we become more empowered by connecting to God daily. Spiritual empowerment is the greatest form of empowerment.

Spiritual empowerment is knowing who you are and whose you are.

My mentor has a saying, “we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” Our spiritual nature cannot be denied.

We are created by God and in His image. We are spirit.

Our quest for spiritual empowerment should be relentless.

Living an empowered life begins with spiritual empowerment. A spiritually empowered person:

  • Lives in awareness and awe of the Creator’s reign over life.
  • Nurtures this connection daily with prayer and meditation.
  • Operates in his or her God-given talents and works for the greater good of all mankind.

Great post. Empowerment for me is being free to walk in my gifts and accomplish the purpose God intended for me!
