Get good grades … preferably A’s and B’s. This was a predominant expectation of my childhood.

Excelling in school was the key to all future successes. So I was led to believe.

Good grades in high school presented greater choices for college. A stellar college grade point average opened doors to jobs with best-in-class employers or admission to prestigious graduate schools.

So I’m a college grad … I thought at the young-ish age of 22 … what now? How was I to convert this quest for good grades in school into a successful career and life where there are no A’s and B’s awarded every quarter?

The answer lies deep within.

Success is often presented as something you acquire, a goal you achieve, a major win. Recently, I’ve come to understand success is not so simple as one acquisition after another.

It may not be a what. It may even be a who.

Success is not necessarily what you attain in life, rather success may be who you are and who you can become. Success is yours to define. It yours to grow into.

Yours alone.

And it is a process, a journey.

In a previous blog, I proclaimed my newfound desire to become a millionaire. Shortly after I developed a reading list of the leading books on finances and wealth, including Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker.

Intrigued by its description and a believer in positive thinking, I eagerly opened the book to learn how millionaires think so I could, well,  become a millionaire.

My key revelation is millionaires think like most all successful people think. They understand the importance of knowing what you want, having clarity, having a plan and staying the course.

In my quest to learn about becoming a millionaire, I learned so much more about the success mindset as a lifestyle, a choice, a commitment.

These success concepts, the so-called secrets of the rich, are relevant to becoming a millionaire and just about anything else you want to be in life.

With all of this in mind, here are a few pearls of wisdom from the Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. Learn them. Embrace them. Apply them. Live by them.

  1. No thought lives in your head rent free … Each thought you have will either be an investment or a cost. It will either move you toward happiness and success or away from it. It will either empower you or disempower you. That’s why it is imperative you choose your thoughts and beliefs wisely”
  2. “The number one reason most people don’t get what they want is that they don’t know what they want.”
  3. “Success is a learnable skill. You can learn to succeed at anything.”
  4. “The order to success is BE, DO, HAVE … If I become a successful person, I will be able to do what I need to do to have what I want, including a lot of money.””
  5. “Success is not a ‘what’, it is a ‘who’. The good news is that ‘who’ you are is totally trainable and learnable.”
  6. “The biggest mistake most people make is waiting for the feeling of fear to subside or disappear before they are willing to act. These people usually wait forever.  It is not necessary to try to get rid of fear in order to succeed.”
